5 reasons home mechanics keep one of these in the truck

Turn the bolt you can't reach. Without pulling the engine apart to get there.

1

It turns the bolt you can touch but can't turn.

Short ratchet, no leverage. Long one, no room. You know the spot. This bar slides into the gap flat, and your ratchet turns that bolt from over a foot away.

2

Nothing comes apart to get there.

Cars are built for easy assembly. Not easy repair. That bolt went in on the line with the whole bay open. Now the guide says pull the intake or drop the subframe... for one bolt. With this, the bar goes in, the bolt comes out, and the engine stays together.

3

Your hands stay where there's room.

There's a chain inside the bar. Your ratchet turns one end, the socket turns the other, one to one. The bar never swings, so it fits where no ratchet head can. Your knuckles stay out of it.

It works with the sockets you already own.

Three adapters in the box: 1/4, 3/8 and 1/2 inch. The head is just 18 mm (0.7 in) thick, about the width of a finger. Rated to 53 ft-lb.

The five-hour shop quote stays at the shop.

Most of a five-hour quote is pulling stuff off to reach one bolt. That's the part you keep. One bar, and the job stays yours.

Before you buy

It doesn't bend. It needs a straight line to the bolt.

Max 53 ft-lb. Hand ratchet only, no impact guns.

Seized bolt? Break it loose with a breaker bar first.
